Hottarakashi Onsen

Natural hot spring with free-flowing hot-spring water while watching the sunrise

This hot spring bathing facility in the mountains is open one hour before sunrise, allowing visitors to bathe in the morning glow.

There are two open-air baths, uniquely named “that hot spring” and “this hot spring.
The “this hot spring” is on the right and the “that hot spring” is on the far left, and visitors are free to choose whichever they wish to enter. Each has separate indoor and outdoor baths for men and women.

The hot spring water is natural and free-flowing, and the baths here and there use different sources of hot spring water.

Both hot springs are located at about 700 meters above sea level, and the views from the hot springs are outstanding, attracting many tourists and climbers every day.

Fuji on the left and the Daibosatsu Ridge on the right, and from this hot spring, you can see Mt.

Kocchi no Yu
The building was handmade by the staff and has a tasteful atmosphere of wood and rock construction.

The spring water is alkaline simple hot spring.

Hot spring on the other side
This hot spring is twice as large as the one on this side of the mountain.
Since it opens one hour before sunrise, many visitors come to watch the sunrise while soaking in the bathtub.
The spring is an alkaline simple hot spring (hypotonic alkaline hot spring).
With a PH of 10.1, it is highly alkaline, smooth on the skin, hard to cool down, and soft to the touch.

Leave it alone
Originally, the hot spring was dug up with the intention of making it a facility for a nursing home, but when the plan for the nursing home was scrapped, only the hot spring remained.
The plan for a retirement home was scrapped, and only the hot spring was left standing. The “Kochi no Yu” was created by hand and named “Hottarakashi” Onsen, meaning “left alone” in Japanese, so that visitors can enjoy the wonderful scenery and hot spring without any services.

Expansion in progress
The natural location of the hot spring has not changed, but the new “Kotto no Yu” has been built, and the facilities have been enhanced with a rest area and a restaurant with the warmth of wood.
