Hikawa Valley Ryumon Gorge

This is a beautiful valley surrounded by clear streams and waterfalls. In spring, azalea blossoms bloom, and in fall, autumn leaves add color to the scenery. The Ryumon Gorge is dotted with such sights as the “Three Ochiai Waterfalls,” “Ryumon Falls,” “Senga no Iwa,” and “Tengu Fuchi.

The 2.4-km-long promenade course runs from Ryumon Bridge to Seiunji Temple. Visitors can easily enjoy hiking while listening to the sound of the mountain stream. Ryumon Gorge is designated as a scenic preservation area.

The Nichigawa Valley is an area of 350 hectares of beautiful greenery and valleys, and is a scenic spot designated as a Yamanashi Historical Differentiation Park and the Ryumonkyo Scenic Preservation District.

The river water flowing through Ryumonkyo is so pure that it heals the body and soul of visitors.

Visitors can easily enjoy the seasonal changes in nature, not only in autumn when the leaves turn red, but also in spring when the leaves are fresh green, summer when the air is cool, and winter when the leaves are mysterious. The promenade is well-maintained, and even those who are not accustomed to hiking in the mountains can reach the final point without getting lost on this beginner-friendly canyon course, which is also recommended for families.

The log bridges along the way are thrilling and fun, and the trees are marked with nameplates, allowing visitors to observe nature. There are also pavilions along the trail where visitors can enjoy a meal while gazing at the beautiful river.

The three Ochiai waterfalls at the midpoint of the trail can be viewed up close, and the negative ions will refresh you.

As you cross back over the river and continue along the trail, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the stone gate of Hirado and the stone-walled zelkova tree of Kizuki. These are natural formations formed by granite over a long period of time, and their majestic appearance evokes a sense of history.

Climbing up the rather steep stairs, you will reach the final destination, Seiunji Temple, which stands on Mt. There is a village-run bus stop nearby, providing convenient access to the Yamato Tenmokuzan Hot Springs, the Nichikawa Valley Recreation Center, and the Tendozan Keitokuin Temple.
